i just bought a pedometer and i’m pretty advanced at working out but, i was wondering if i just walked 20000 steps throughout the day sporadically, would i loose weight or do i have to go at a certain pace and heart rate. i’ve never done the heart rate thing with any weight loss program and have always lost weight
I live in a small apartment in the city and just got a 7 week old retriever/blue heeler mix. He is very smart and energetic and is doing great with his puppy pad training. His vet is very old school and told me that I could start bringing him out side at 8 weeks. I keep reading stuff in books and online about not bringing a puppy out before all vaccinations are complete at 16 weeks. I called another clinic today to get a another opinion and they told me that he should not be brought out until 16 weeks because he could contract rabies from the excrement of a rabid animal. There seems to be multiple schools of thought. The issue is not so much the pad training, though I would obviously like to get him house broken asap, but rather that he is an energetic little guy and will eventually grow to be an energetic bigger guy. I want to be able to run/walk with him and get him as much exercise as possible to ensure that he is happy, healthy and well balanced, but at the same time, I don’t want to risk his health and possibly his life, since we’ve sorta grown a little attached to the little guy. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding what age he should be allowed out or recommendations about alternative forms of exercise? THANKS!
A woman between the ages of 20-40 in good health.
A day without exercise including going to work for about 8 hours (equal amounts of walking and sitting at the job) and running a few errands.
Does anyone have a good estimate or a website with that type of information?
We have a 9 and 1/2 year old Estrela Mountain dog who is a very large breed. The life expectancy for larger dogs isn’t usually as long as smaller breed and his little mate was put to sleep some months ago. Since then we adopted a slightly younger dog who is full of energy. It’s obvious that our older dog isn’t as spry and has some trouble sitting or coming up the stairs, but he gets so excited when we play ball or go for walks. We try to limit the amount of playing and walks for him because of his age, but I’m worried that this might have some negative effects on his health as well. I want to give him exercise but am afraid of his body not being able to handle it well. Also, it’s difficult to balance our younger dog’s energy with our older dog, since they both want to be very active but one is more capable than the other. Sorry to ramble on, but does anyone have any advice?
