Hi, I am 36 years old. I weigh 75 kilos and am 5ft7 or 1m71
I have weighed about 70-72 for as long as I can remember, maybe since I was 17 while always being active and relatively healthy. I have been desperately trying to lose 3kg on 1000-1300 calories a day this last month and I do 1 hour a day of serious power walking plus an hour normal walking around (I know this as I have a pedometer). I have cut out alcohol except a couple on saturdays, no sugar or sweet or refined foods, no red meat and fatty meat and have only low fat dairy products. I’m eating healthy. Why won’t my weight change in the slightest? My blood tests don’t seem to show thyroid problems. They say you should lose 1-2 pounds/week I have lost zilch in 5 weeks!! My clothes fit the same and I haven’t noticed I’m more toned or maybe very slightly. Anyway I do feel good with the huge increase in exercise. Any ideas what could be wrong? I can’t cut my calories any more with all the exercise I’m doing
Sorry for being longwinded but I have to fully explain what going on to get an answer.
Now I’m not new to working out and exercise I have been trying to lose weight for about 6 years now and all I seem able to do is to hold my current weight and when I give up I put on another 20lbs or so.
I weight 240 lbs and I have been on an intense workout regiment for the last 3 weeks. I have been working out for months but just started this regiment 3 weeks ago.
I go to the gym and train on the elliptical for 1 hour 5 to 7 times a week. I have done no less than 5 times a week. The elliptical allow me to put in my weight and age. So even though I know it’s not 100% accurate about how many calories I burn but I know it’s somewhat close. I after 1 hour and a pretty high resistance I burn 1,000+ calories every time I step foot on the machine. I also wear a heart rate monitor with chest strap and I’m careful not to train too hard or too little I keep my heart rate around 160 to 170 rpm for the full hour. I do other things in the gym as well. I’m trying to rehab shin splints that popped up when I tried to run while being too fat. Had physical therapy for weeks nothing is working, but that another story. I also have a job where I’m up and about around 90% of the day. I where a pedometer and I usually clock 10,000-12,000 steps before I leave work and if I wear it to the gym I clock 20,000+ steps for the day. My workouts are so intense I lose about 1.2 to 1.5 pounds of sweat during the workout. I weigh before and after on a very accurate scale.
I’m eating about 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day.
An average day:
7:00am breakfast trail mix- nuts, granola, dried cranberries and raisins.
9:00am light yogurt-70 calories
11:30am turkey sandwich whole wheat no mayo and fruit
4:00pm- granola bar and fruit
6:00pm chicken breast and veggies (never any carbs for dinner)
I drink about a gallon a water a day.
From what I understand my basil metabolic rate(calories burned while being alive for 24 hours) is about 10 for calories for every pound I weigh. So for me is about 2,400 calories burned just for being alive.
So here the math:
(food intate)- (metabolic rate)= -400 (calorie deficit)+-1000 = -1,400 deficit almost daily not counting what I burn at work.
2,000 –2,400= -400+ -1000= -1400
Why am I not losing weight is 3 weeks too soon to expect results from this? What am I doing wrong? The only thing I can think of is doing 2 hrs of cardio and a hour of weight lifting a day, but my wife already thinks I’m in the gym too much and still have nothing to show for it please help. I actually gained 4.4 pounds since I started all of this. Again I’m getting to the point that I want to give up but I know I will be 260lbs if I let up on it. Also I’ve been to the doctor and they said my thyroid tested fine.
Ok. SO im 20. and i only gain weight in my stomache causing me to look Prego. my legs are super skinny as well as my arms. I dont understand. Like i walk aprox 7 miles at work ( im a waitress) according to a pedometer. Also when i wake up i look skinnier ( thought still prego) but as soon as i eat my belly swells like triple the size?….
I just wanna know why? And will just running do the trick? please help.
Hi, I only have a few pounds to lose I am not heavy or anything just would like to lose few and I have been walking a lot lately, I bought a pedometer and walk 10 thousand steps at least each day been doing this for a week steadily, I also have been doing abdominal exercises and some leg. I have been watching what I eat and not overly indulging. Last night I weighed myself I weighed 120 and this morning I weigh 124 whats up with that, I could just cry, is my scale messed up or is it me, whats going on? HELP
this time I am asking about my husband. He has lots of health problems but last fall we were walking 3 miles a day. Then almost overnight his get up and go just got up and went. It’s been over a year now and he is slowly coming back to normal but still lacks energy to get up and do anything. He has gained a lot of weight but is slowly loosing on my cooking. LOL but it’s true. I cook differently than he does.
So between now and whenever – if he ever gets his energy back – does it make that much difference?
