I’m a 17-year-old 5′4″ female and I recently lost over 30 pounds in a period of 8 months on the Jenny Craig diet. I was advised by my consultant at the center to restrict my caloric intake to 1200 a day. I followed the menu as religiously as possible but often felt extremely hungry and fatigued, stopped having my period, got brittle nails, and to make matters worse, my body eventually went into starvation mode. As it turned out, I was eating 1300 calories below my caloric maintenance level. Top that off with the fact that I exercise 3 times a week, and, according to my pedometer, I burn over 1000 calories due taking more than 20000 steps a day…oh, my goodness. When I asked my consultant to put me on 1700 calories, she refused to and quickly explained that some of her other clients who are “marathon runners” only need 1500. So, I decided to tough it out for 1 more week and ended up gaining a pound. Her response? “Um, yeah…I don’t know what’s going on.” It was right then and there I decided it would be best for me to just give my body a break, a chance to recover.
So, it has been 10 days since Jenny Craig and I parted ways. The first 3 days of eating on my own were absolutely fantastic. I even lost 0.8lbs! It all started going downhill on the 4th day, thanks to my stomach’s growling and feeling empty every 60 to 90 minutes. Ever since then, I have been binge eating on various fruits such as grapes and watermelon, wholegrain high fiber granola cereal (with and without Omega-3), oatmeal, flax sprouted grain bread, and fat free soy beverage. Absolutely no fast food. None. No MacDonald’s, KFC, Burger Baron, Subway, nothing. Anyway, I have gone from 129.9lbs to 138. Mind you, I have intestinal gas and abdominal bloating, and I’ve been expelling a lot of waste. So, is it really possible to gain between 8 to 10 pounds of fat in 1 week from binge eating? Is this my body’s way of trying to achieve some kind of balance?

I’m trying to get fit and lose some weight. I’ve tried many forms of exercise (mainly workout DVDs, spinning or other keep fit classes), but I usually last a couple of weeks then get really bored and never go back! I know that exercise has to be something I work into my life in the long term if I want to reap the benefits.
What I really do enjoy is walking! And I’m wondering if I start walking on my errands (shopping etc) rather than driving will this help me get fit and lose weight? I’ve calculated that my supermarket trips would equal about a three mile walk and there’s also a lovely park near me which I could do about the same length walk. If I do this a few times a week (three?) would I see results? I know it’s not cardio (which has given me great results in the past, if only I could stick at it!), but it’s something I might actually be able to sustain.
Any advice? I’d walk briskly and am considering getting a pedometer.

I am interested to know how much exercise people do every week. And the reasons for doing it – i.e, general fitness and health or for just losing weight. Please answer with your Age and weight please..

I live in a small apartment in the city and just got a 7 week old retriever/blue heeler mix. He is very smart and energetic and is doing great with his puppy pad training. His vet is very old school and told me that I could start bringing him out side at 8 weeks. I keep reading stuff in books and online about not bringing a puppy out before all vaccinations are complete at 16 weeks. I called another clinic today to get a another opinion and they told me that he should not be brought out until 16 weeks because he could contract rabies from the excrement of a rabid animal. There seems to be multiple schools of thought. The issue is not so much the pad training, though I would obviously like to get him house broken asap, but rather that he is an energetic little guy and will eventually grow to be an energetic bigger guy. I want to be able to run/walk with him and get him as much exercise as possible to ensure that he is happy, healthy and well balanced, but at the same time, I don’t want to risk his health and possibly his life, since we’ve sorta grown a little attached to the little guy. Does anyone have any thoughts regarding what age he should be allowed out or recommendations about alternative forms of exercise? THANKS!

Im following the weight watchers points diet and this week I have been to the gym three times doing 35 minuite work outs each time walked 5000 steps (i was wearing a pedometer) and ate my five portions of fruit and veg and stuck to 90 percent of what the diet said I could took salad and fish for lunch to work as well instead of buying lunch!. My only downfall has been the fact that I have had a few glassed of wine this week. My weigh in is tomorrow and I was wondering how much I could have lost!
