i was told that you divide the distance by the time. I walked 2.18 miles in 48 minutes. I came up with .0452083. Any other suggestions on how to figure this out? How do you figure your stride out, my pedometer said to walk 10 steps -measure the distance that you’ve walked from heel to heel or toe to toe.. Then divide by the distance covered to your stride. Im 5′3′ and i cam up with 197 inches = 20″ stride. On a website i was using for doing routes, it came up with 26 inches. Why is there such a difference? Are those websites accurate for figuring out the distances on routes?
I’m starting a new fitness routine, which is going to include a few miles of walking during my week. I’ve got my iPod and my water, and once payday hits, a pedometer to boot… but… walking, if I may say so, is.. well.. boring. It’s kind of monotonous!
Any suggestions on how to make it a more interesting or enjoyable experience? Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to add more fitness firepower to plain old walking? I know that ankle weights are bad bad bad! Suggestions backed with links or sources would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I know that might sound stupid but it’s an honest question. I have been walking and using my pedometer, 2 of them actually for accuracy. Well today I decided to drive my big ole truck along the same route to see if the mileage was the same and it wasn’t it was less what the hay? Anyone know???

I work in nursing home, I keep track of how many steps I walk on a pedometer, today I cam home and it said, 11,198 steps. I’m just wondering how many calories I burned– walking at a moderate pace average. I am 5′6 and I weigh 151.4lbs.
I’m 5′9″ and 170 (i’m a thick sistah, but not fat) and i gained a little weight over the winter. I want to lose about 30 pounds or so. I want to start walking but i really haven’t exercised in a while. Is walking a good start? Should i walk fast or slow when just starting out? How long should i walk when starting? I have an outdoor track right by me that’s a half-mile long.
