So I’m a beginning runner trying to train for a 5K. I’ve done a lot of research on creating a training plan etc. and I’m not looking for advice on that front. What I do need help with is keeping track of my time.
I hate wearing a watch because I have very sensitive skin on my wrist and in the past I have had horrible outbreaks of eczema and watches have given me extreme heat rashes.
I’m wondering if there is another way to keep track of time, maybe a running play-list that changes song every minute or beeps every minute. Maybe a pedometer that also has a stop watch – ideally one that attaches at the waist.
Suggestions?

for overall heart health? Not weight loss, which is 10,000 – just a healthy lifestyle.

Just wondering if there are any health benefits from using a space hopper regularly?! Strange question, but a friend does regularly and is attempting to get me one to use for exercise. Obviously, I do not want to waste time using one if its not very helpful. What does it improve? What muscles? Does it improve balance or posture, etc?
Any help would be apperciated.
Thanks.

a pedometer hasn’t really helped me ..it counted every step that i took..and you want to aim for 10,000 or more…it really doesn’t help because in time it gets discouraging when you didn’t reach your goal steps..just go 30mins on a elliptical and in no time you will have a fab body

I had to figure this out about 15 years ago, because in the winter time I jog and speed walk in a big circle in my basement.
However, my calculations will not be perfectly accurate for you, because everybody has a different stride length.
And I also measured my stride in miles, but with a little simple math I will give you an accurate number of steps.
I am 5′ 8″, and it takes me about 1876 steps to do a mile. 1876/2.2 = 853 steps per Kilometer.
So for 5k,……….853 * 5k = 4265 steps.
and for 10 k,……853 * 10k = 8530 steps.
If you are shorter add about 2% per inch of height, and if you are taller subtract about 2% per inch of height.
Good Luck.
PS. I think newer pedometers tell you how many miles or kilometers you walked by measuring and entering your stride length, just like a moutain bike speedometer measures your miles by measuring your tire diameter. I’m not sure.
