i bought one today and i went running/walking it said i walked 6000 steps and burned 300 and so calories are they really accurate and good to use?

Pedometers can be useful but are only as accurate as the setting. You measure your stride and enter it into the unit. If you measure incorrectly the readings will be worthless.

There is a problem that if you shake them they count steps so unless you’re extremely careful you could end up with it being inaccurate that way. For this reason I would reset it after you have attached it.
They show a very good indicator though, just don’t assume they are perfect
