um yeahh….pedometers are used for tracking the distance that you walk…

hiya. when you are jogging on surface streets and not on a track where you know the precise distance, what is the best way to calculate your distance? my husband is 6′1″ and i am 5′2″, so we get different results with our pedometer. should we drive the route in our car, or will that also be a different measurement?
thanks for your help.

would a pedometer work accurately in a spin ( stationary high intensity biking ) class?

Hi everyone
I want to start walking more to improve my fitness level & keep hearing that 10,000 steps is the daily rocommended amount we should be walking. I don’t have a pedometer at the moment but am planning to pick one up soon.
Do any of you guys know roughly the distance that 20,000 steps would cover…like in miles?
I realise this could vary from person to person because we all walk at a different speed but was just trying to guess-timate it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

regular pedometers won’t work – they count how many times you hit the ground and multiply that by your stride. Plus, they aren’t waterproof. You could get a water proof gps machine, they would work. But the best idea would be to count your laps and multiply them by the length of the pool. Some places have guides up on the wall telling you how far a mile is etc. If not, ask the lifeguards, they usually know. Most pools are 25 yards, meaning that you need to do 72 lengths of the pool to get a mile in. Some are 25 meters meaning that you need to do 64 lengths to get a mile in. If counting is hard (it can be very boring) break your workout into smaller routines that are easier to count. Maybe do 2 crawls then 1 breaststroke? Maybe break your routine up into quarter miles (18 lengths) or something else that’s easier on you. Another thing you could do would be to time a couple of lengths and then multiply that by how many minutes you swim. It would only be an estimate, but it might be pretty close depending on how tired you get.
