My daily exercise includes around 30-40mins vigorous jogging on the spot. These are the questions I would like answered:
Should a pedometer be used for such an exercise?
What counts as a step? If in a given amount of time my right foot hits the floor 10times how many steps have I done? This is mainly to check the calibration of the pedometer
Also what is the average amount of calories that are burnt in 10 minutes? I am 53kg and 1.73m height. On average the pedometer marks 27cal per 10 minutes which do seem a bit low :s
Thanks to all those who try to help me

I had to figure this out about 15 years ago, because in the winter time I jog and speed walk in a big circle in my basement.
However, my calculations will not be perfectly accurate for you, because everybody has a different stride length.
And I also measured my stride in miles, but with a little simple math I will give you an accurate number of steps.
I am 5′ 8″, and it takes me about 1876 steps to do a mile. 1876/2.2 = 853 steps per Kilometer.
So for 5k,……….853 * 5k = 4265 steps.
and for 10 k,……853 * 10k = 8530 steps.
If you are shorter add about 2% per inch of height, and if you are taller subtract about 2% per inch of height.
Good Luck.
PS. I think newer pedometers tell you how many miles or kilometers you walked by measuring and entering your stride length, just like a moutain bike speedometer measures your miles by measuring your tire diameter. I’m not sure.

My pedometer said made 10670 steps, there is NO way that is accurate. I am trying to get ready for a 5k walk, and I need to see how I will do.

In all i walked over 7,090 steps today while i went out on my afternoon hour walk. I would like to know how far i went (in miles).
