i was told that you divide the distance by the time. I walked 2.18 miles in 48 minutes. I came up with .0452083. Any other suggestions on how to figure this out? How do you figure your stride out, my pedometer said to walk 10 steps -measure the distance that you’ve walked from heel to heel or toe to toe.. Then divide by the distance covered to your stride. Im 5′3′ and i cam up with 197 inches = 20″ stride. On a website i was using for doing routes, it came up with 26 inches. Why is there such a difference? Are those websites accurate for figuring out the distances on routes?

I don’t know the equation but if you waked over 2 miles in less than 1 hour you are walking over 2 miles an hour.
like close to 2.5 mph.
I came up with 2.8 miles an hour. ?
I now come up with 2.625 mph .
your calculation of 0452083. is how fast you are walking per minute. multiply your answer of 0452083×60 and you get the 2.72 again.
my daughter in law is a math major and this is really just a simple math equation I will get you a “for sure” in a short time.
2.725 mph is the right answer!
I came up with 3.9mph. I converted miles into feet (5280ft) and since you walked 2 miles that’s 10560 ft. and .18 miles = 950.4 ft.
Add 10560 + 950.4 = 11510.4. (total distance in ft)
Now, for your time. I multiplied 48 by 60 because there’s 60 seconds in each minute. I got 2880 (seconds).
Last, I divided your full distance (in ft) by your full time (in seconds)
11510.4 / 2880 and got 3.9 roughly **4 mph.**
I took the easy way out cutting the 48 down to 45 divided 2.18 by three and multiply your answer by 4 which brings you to around 2.8 mph. Can’t explain why the website would be so different but it assesses your stride as 6″ longer when in fact you work your stride out more accurately given your personal stride.
