Shouldn’t government dictate what you should be putting in your body at ALL times?
Shouldn’t the Government dictate the amount of time YOU should exercise each day?
Shouldn’t the Government ensure you adhere to certain height and weight measures?
Shouldn’t you understand the Government is only dictating what you should do to keep YOU healthy.
Isn’t that what your Government is supposed to do?
Liberty for ALL.

  • Reverend Master of Curses says:

The government has become more intrusive and controlling than it was ever intended to be by those who designed it. If we are to be a free people we need less government interference in our lives.

  • miraculo says:

No to all the above. It’s the government’s job to make sure nobody (including the government) infringes upon our god given and constitutional rights.
Meanwhile they could assist in educating people how to eat healthy and avoid obesity. The FDA could be used as it was intended, to protect consumers from dangerous products instead of protecting corporate profits. But that’s not their job either, just a suggestion.
BTW, this ‘health care bill’ isn’t going to pass, but if it did, would only benefit the insurance and pharmaceutical companies, not our health. They don’t give a rat’s **** about our health.

  • Phil M says:

    Well…
The Government tells people they can’t have abortions after a certain period of time.
The Government tells people what it can and cannot legally ingest.
The Government tells people what it can and cannot legally possess.
The Government tells people who they can and cannot talk to, if you talk to the wrong people your privacy is invaded and your name is slandered.
The Government tells people where they can protest, how late they can buy a beer, etc…
The Government tells consenting adults who they can and cannot marry.

  • jehen says:

No. But the government does not do these things. And no one is proposing it should. What you are calling ‘forced’ is simply prudent incentives and education.
It is in the interest of the people to have knowledge of what is healthy and not healthy – and the only source of that information that could be accurate and trusted is the government. Agribusiness and junk food makers are never going to tell you, they are only going to sell you.

  • mommanuk says:

You seem to live in a fantasy world in which something called “the government” exists separate from the “people.” We ARE the government. You are welcome to gather groups of people who feel like you do and vote in or out people who don’t agree with you.
But as long as you live in a world in which you are not part of the government, nothing will make sense to you.

  • Rebel_Ro says:

    The government doesn’t have rights.
    The people do.
    …So, no!

Edit: How can there be liberty for all if the government should dictate what we do? That’s an oxymoron.
Edit2: To “The Patriot—>Way down at the bottom” :
Other countries are allowed to progress efficiently with their health care systems due to our country’s capitalism. If we were to become socialists, all of those nations socialism health care systems would in time, fail, over the course of 5 to 10 years.

It’s seems ironic to me that the Democratic Party standard bearer (JFK) merely spoke of physical fitness programs in public schools, along with how we (US) lagged far behind Europe, and then it became the norm for public schools to have scheduled and required physical education. Today based on the same parties philosophy, children have a choice on whether to take physical education or not. And if it’s required, a student can simply say they don’t want to do it, without repercussion.

  • outraged says:

Your sarcasm comes through loud and clear. All I see with these bills that all now have gag orders on them so we are not aware of what is going on are intended to remove all rights. We will not have the choice to do anything including live without government approval. I have never in my life been afraid of my government as I am now.

  • Janet says:

If your liberty allows you to eat unhealthy food, smoke, drink, not exercise, and allow yourself to fall into a condition of terrible heath then by all means go for it. My liberty is to not be required to pay for you doctor, hospital, and pharm. bills.

  • grandma zaza says:

Democrats will try to do all of the above. If you give them an inch they will take 100 miles. This is why it is so amusing to me when Liberals say Republicans want to control their lives. Hilarious!

  • Blessed Cheesemaker (cancelled) says:

Nobody is proposing that the government do any of those things.
Thats what’s wrong with the GOP arguments. They are fighting against mythic policy.

  • jakepi says:

No, but it is each citizens right that when they demand proof of his eligibility to run and hold office,he must provide it.

  • PIKMANZ, M.D. says:

The government is giving you guidelines. They’re not MAKING you do anything. Rules were meant to be broken anyway.

  • Chupate esa! says:

No, but corporations or slave owners can or can make the government do if it benefits them…

  • Thalia says:

Yes, I’m sick of all these fat Americans everywhere. The goverment should force them all to loose some pounds. :P
Give me a thumbs down if you’re fat!

  • Michelle S says:

I think this a parents responsibility to teach nutrition, most obesity comes from childhood diets

  • eyeofra1 says:

    No.

  • sick n tired says:

    No.

  • thorax23 says:

Kind of negates our freedoms doesn’t it. I mean for me all of these things are true, in the Army, but for citizens…..F@&$ NO!!!!

  • The Patriot says:

If that is the government the people elect, then yes.
I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the real healthcare issues relying instead on FOX and other sources to spread lies about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad. I mean, if healthcare in nations with universal coverage is so bad, why do they keep it?
Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it gives the American people value for money [1]. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Taiwan where private companies are involved in providing healthcare [2].
Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected by the American people to do this [3].
FACT – the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [4,5].
FACT – American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover [6].
FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [7].
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in any western nation with universal health coverage.
If you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012. But if you disagree with the facts, please let me know. I am always willing to learn, but please provide proof. None of those who disagree with me have been able to do that so far.
