I’m a 17-year-old 5′4″ female and I recently lost over 30 pounds in a period of 8 months on the Jenny Craig diet. I was advised by my consultant at the center to restrict my caloric intake to 1200 a day. I followed the menu as religiously as possible but often felt extremely hungry and fatigued, stopped having my period, got brittle nails, and to make matters worse, my body eventually went into starvation mode. As it turned out, I was eating 1300 calories below my caloric maintenance level. Top that off with the fact that I exercise 3 times a week, and, according to my pedometer, I burn over 1000 calories due taking more than 20000 steps a day…oh, my goodness. When I asked my consultant to put me on 1700 calories, she refused to and quickly explained that some of her other clients who are “marathon runners” only need 1500. So, I decided to tough it out for 1 more week and ended up gaining a pound. Her response? “Um, yeah…I don’t know what’s going on.” It was right then and there I decided it would be best for me to just give my body a break, a chance to recover.
So, it has been 10 days since Jenny Craig and I parted ways. The first 3 days of eating on my own were absolutely fantastic. I even lost 0.8lbs! It all started going downhill on the 4th day, thanks to my stomach’s growling and feeling empty every 60 to 90 minutes. Ever since then, I have been binge eating on various fruits such as grapes and watermelon, wholegrain high fiber granola cereal (with and without Omega-3), oatmeal, flax sprouted grain bread, and fat free soy beverage. Absolutely no fast food. None. No MacDonald’s, KFC, Burger Baron, Subway, nothing. Anyway, I have gone from 129.9lbs to 138. Mind you, I have intestinal gas and abdominal bloating, and I’ve been expelling a lot of waste. So, is it really possible to gain between 8 to 10 pounds of fat in 1 week from binge eating? Is this my body’s way of trying to achieve some kind of balance?

Are we the same person or what!?!? I’m 21 and have lost 30 (from 165 to 135) but a few weekends ago I went on a crazy binge. It wasn’t a one day binge either- more like 3 or 4 days of eating absolute garbage. Ice cream, pizza, tacos, milkshakes, cake, you name it, I ate it. Not only did I feel majorly sick after eating so clean and healthy for months previously, but I “gained” over 8 lbs on the scale once I was brave enough to hop on. Thankfully I got some sense kicked into me and 6 of those fell off within a week. it’s water weight. to gain 8 lbs or whatever, you’d actually have to consume 28,000 EXTRA calories on top of 1450 (how many i burn just by being alive every day).
so don’t worry, i just went through this
it may show on the scale and your clothes may feel tight/see it in your face, but it’s not real weight. it’s water. i wouldn’t eat 1200 calories though, that’s much too low for someone who doesn’t have weight to lose, and at 5′4 128 you don’t have more than 5 lbs at most.
good luck
it is possible that your body is trying to get to it’s natural weight. You should try a cleanse nothing harsh just something to get the toxins out of your body maybe that will help
Your body is probably just trying to re-adjust. I really don’t think it’s possible to gain that much in 1 week binging on those types of foods. You may be retaining water.
Oh, yeah, you can gain that much in a week even more.
ive done it
yesss ate a lot of twinkies!!=]
No, it is not possible to gain any where near 10 lbs (of fat) in one week. You have to over eat 3500 calories to gain just 1 lb. Don’t worry, it’s mostly water retention. That was a smart move to leave Jenny Craig, they had you on a starvation diet. You lose muscle (the thing that burns fat) when you starve yourself. I just lost 20 lbs in a month and I am never hungry and I don’t get cravings for any junk food. The best (fastest, healthiest, easiest) way to lose fat (not muscle) is eat low glycemic foods (enter blood steam slowly). Learn about the glycemic index and you will lose weight fast and effortlessly and you will be healthier, rather than less healthy.
Everyone has a natural weight, just like the first guy said. I’m 5′3, and I plateau at around 145…..I am naturally hourglass shaped, very proportional. When you are hungry, you must eat. No matter what anyone says, as long as you eat foods which are good for you (and its not hard to distinguish those) you’ll be fine. Are you working out too? Once you start to exercise, what you eat isn’t nearly a big a deal as what you DO. Good luck, and don’t buy into those gimmicks. They will make you miserable, feel like a failure, and have no scientific value what so ever. Your shape is beautiful.
