My husband and I walk together I walk more steps and more miles but his pedometer says he burns more calories than me. We bought the same pedometers so we could keep track. Does my being 50 have a bearing on how many calories I burn? HELP

watching what you eat is not enough. its more about what you eat at what time. if your eating carbs all day , your just burning your glycogen stores instead of fat. your metabolism is slowed down becuase we lose muscle as we get older. its has nothing to do with age really.
to all the people saying your gaining muscle thats crap. you cant gain that much muscle that quickly. your not gonna gain alot of muscle from walking. if you did heavy weight lifting for one year you would be lucky to gain 10 lbs of muscle.
Try this, there’s a website called http://www.fitday.com that will track your eating and exercising habits…and it’s free. Your age is a factor, and men burn calories faster that women do. You can use the website to tell you how many calories you’re taking in and how many you are burning. It takes a long time to burn one calorie, and it’s much easier to add them than subtract them!. I hope this helps.
Good Luck!
Don’t forget to drink a LOT of water, your body needs water to break down fat. In fact, your body needs 3 moles of water just to break down 1 mole of fat.
Oh come on muscle weighs more then fat your loosing fat gaining muscle…
Females burn lesser calories than males, because smaller muscle mass burns lesser calories. In addition, anyone will find losing weight more difficult as one ages.
Brisk walking is great for burning body fats and must be accompanied by a right diet.
Try low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein, and exercise. The foods are low caloried, and yet filling and healthy.
It is my lifestyle now. I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs/14kg and gained better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs/49kg for more than a year, with more fruits and complex carbs.
Details such as my experience, meals, snacks, recipes, foods to buy, reading labels, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc,
